| The Phoenix Global Humanitarian Foundation believes in giving and
volunteering on a local and global level. We believe in serving
with compassion and love those who are suffering from disasters, losses,
and tragedies regardless of race, age, citizenship, gender, culture,
religion, and beliefs. Margaret Mead's idea of a small group of
thoughtful and committed people changing the world inspired the founding
of the LIGHT team. LIGHT stands for Local and International
Grassroots Humanitarian Teams. Each LIGHT teams consists of 4-6
committed volunteers who will uphold the PGHF ideals, values, and mission.
LIGHT groups are autonomous "spark plug" teams who will hopefully ignite and
give light to the ideals of PGHF in many parts of the world.
The very first LIGHT is the Louisville LIGHT team. The co-founders
are Stacy Seitz, Alex Molina, and his wife Heather Collins, along with
Dr. Elizabeth Garcia-Gray. The Louisville LIGHT went to
Uganda on July, 2008 to deliver medical supplies to the Rural Health Care
Foundation in Mubende, Uganda, children's books, and clothing for the
orphaned children of AIDS and helped uplift the 1st International
Healthy and Safe Water for the World Conference, where they encouraged grassroots
leadership. They also did off-roading to visit some isolated patients
suffering from AIDS. PGHF
believes that community empowerment is a key to creating healthy
communities. Individuals and communities first need rays of hope to
believe and have faith that they will not only survive but also be
capable of self-sustaining healthy communities with grassroots
leadership and proactive community participation.
HOW TO CREATE A L.I.G.H.T TEAM
1. Join hearts and minds together with 4-7 friends who are
impassioned about giving and volunteering locally and globally.
2. Meet regularly and review the mission, vision, and values of PGHF and give us your LIGHT team name (ie. Louisville LIGHT, New York
LIGHT, Aruba LIGHT).
3. Review the PGHF Projects locally and internationally on this
website.
4. Connect and email PGHF (click on contact) and please give us your names, e-mails,
addresses, telephone numbers, resumes. Then please share with us how you
found out about the LIGHT team and why you wanted to start one. We
encourage you to create your personal mission statement.
5. Connect with other LIGHT Teams around the world - enjoy
volunteering, fundraising, giving and creating projects that uplift the
PGHF mission. Each LIGHT is autonomous and can donate to PGHF and/or
other humanitarian causes as they choose. The idea of LIGHT was sparked
by the importance of people thinking about service and missions locally
AND globally and grassroots connecting with other grassroots.
6. Have fun while doing good! It keeps your endorphins going while
creating more
ideas to serve and help others. Take good care of one another. Shine
your LIGHT.
We encourage all to share your PGHF LIGHT to our world!
